The Health Factor Program

Our program leads to lifestyle changes that allow you to reach your performance, body composition or wellness goals. There are three phases in our program:

  1. Assessment
  2. Program Development
  3. Implementation and Follow-up

PHASE ONE: ASSESSMENT

The first phase consists of an accurate Clinical Nutritional Assessment. In order to determine metabolic rates, there must be sound tests to measure your current status. This includes measuring physical attributes as well as food intake, past exercise habits, weight history and medical history.

Assessments include:

  • Body composition testing
    • Body composition is essentially the ratio of fat to muscle in an individual.  It is the single most important test of health and fitness.  We use a comprehensive ten-site assessment using skinfold calipers to measure and computer software to calculate.  Our assessments are clinically proven to be one of the best methods to determine body composition.
  • Physical assessment (gender, height, weight, age, medical conditions and medications)
  • Activity evaluation (occupation, exercise habits, sleep patterns)
  • Food intake analysis (calories, ratios of nutrients, meal frequency, known allergies and dislikes)

PHASE TWO: PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

The second phase is Program Development.  This includes determining exactly what a person should eat and how they should exercise in order to move towards their health and fitness goals.  Once a client's metabolic rate is determined and compared to others with the same physical profile, his/her program goals are developed.

Our Sports Nutritionists develop a specific, step by step plan for you to follow to reach that performance, lean body mass and body fat goal.

In summary, program development consists of:

  • Body composition goal setting
  • Physiological recommendations (weight, CHD risk factors, medical condition considerations and medication ramifications)
  • Exercise recommendations (frequency, intensity, duration and type).
  • Food menu development (calories, ratios of nutrients, meal frequency, excluding known allergies and dislikes).

The results are then compiled into your own personal program.   Eight customized sections define the road map to your new lifestyle:

  • Special Condition - Addresses specific medical or physical conditions that effect your nutrition, exercise or supplementation recommendations.
  • Dietary Analysis - A comprehensive critique of how you are currently eating. Calorie intake is compared to calorie expenditure. 38 different nutrients values in your daily food intake are compared with your bodies specific requirements
  • Goals -Your specific present body fat and metabolism are evaluated to show a three month progression with average expected compliancy. This is a prediction of where your body fat, lean body mass, weight and performance are going to be after following our recommendations. Total caloric expenditure (average daily metabolic rate) andtime span between meals and water consumption is presented.
  • Menus - 12-18 balanced meals developed for you to be eaten in a specific order or randomly. Our menus are custom tailored for taste and preparation based on your lifestyle. Food dislikes, likes, intolerances and allergies are all considered in meal development. Your current eating habits are considered in meals in order to gradually move you from where you are to where you need to be. In any case, these meals are designed to maximize nutrient intake while minimizing fat storage.
  • Exercise Routine - Specific workout or activity plan with your goals, time commitment, fitness level, exercise experience and preferences considered. Targeted intensity, workout order, heart rate sets, repetitions, tempo, frequency and duration are all presented.
  • Supplement Intake - Unbiased, straight forward information on appropriate supplements that help balance your food intake or make food dislikes manageable.
  • Exchange List -Custom food options to replace foods on your menus. This is an extensive list of protein, carbohydrate, fat, fruits, vegetables, and dairy foods. A food measurement conversion table is also listed here to help you with portions.
  • Logs and Extras- Appointment keeper, free food list, and daily logs are among other things in this “extra” section.

PHASE THREE: IMPLEMENTATION AND FOLLOW-UP

The third phase is Program Implementation and Follow-up.  Program implementation is the application of a plan to move that person from where they are to their goal(s).  This includes program manipulation and progress assessment in order to prevent the onset of plateaus and provide changes that influence program adherence.

Your Personal Sports Nutritionist adjusts menus, workouts and supplements. He or She has the experience to give you proven hints and suggestions that make all the difference.

This third phase consists of:

  • Body composition update and progression
  • Program adherence, customization and adaptation.
  • Exercise progression/new routine development (frequency, intensity, duration and type).
  • Food menu adaptation/new menu development (calories, ratios of nutrients, meal frequency, excluding known allergies and dislikes).
